What Hosting A Super Bowl Can Do
If you haven't heard, the 2018 Super Bowl will be held in Minneapolis. What you also may not know is that hosting an event like this can bring millions of dollars to the mid-winter slow season of businesses in Minneapolis’ hospitality industry.
Former Mayor Rybak, who played a crucial role in securing Minneapolis as the host, refers to the soon-to-be booming hospitality industry in Minneapolis as the single best ‘Robin Hood’ industry they have. He believes that it’s all about the people who are washing the dishes in the kitchen, making the beds in the hotel, driving the taxi or the bus that will find success during this time.
Hosting the Super Bowl will provide a terrific opportunity to showcase Minnesota to the world. The group 'Meet Minneapolis' have found that first-time visitors to the city generally enjoy themselves and make a return trip. The Super Bowl will bring major economic benefits to the state by first and foremost getting visitors there for the game and then having them hopefully come back a second time just to visit.
If you're wondering what the city plans on doing to prepare for the Super Bowl, you'll surely be impressed. In addition to the new $1 billion Vikings stadium, projects to be completed by 2018 will include the Downtown East development, an overhaul of Nicollet Mall, a renovated Target Center, many new downtown high-rise apartment buildings and transit improvements. Nicollet Mall will become “Super Bowl Boulevard,” a base for ancillary activities and increase spending by visitors.

LumberJack and Jill Went Up A Hill..
To their bachelor/bachelorette party! That's right, bust out your best flannel and roll up the sleeves, it's time to embrace the wilderness. It's going down, we're yelling timber! Invite the wedding parties over to pregame before hitting the local bars for a fun night out on the town to celebrate.
Everyone must wear a flannel shirt!
Grab a button and let everyone know what team you're on!
Put your love on display with an awesome tablescape and food to satisfy everyone's hunger!
What would a lumberjack want to eat? Corn on the cob, baked beans, sliders and fries, all good foods to mow down before heading out for some drinks.
Jacks and Jills can also snack on whatever you choose to fill these adorable brown paper bags with. This display works incredibly well with the lumberjack theme.
Of course, my favorite part of any party is capturing it all on camera, so this photo-booth with lumberjack props is a must. I also love the use of a quilt as the backdrop.
Lastly, before making your way to the bars, the wedding party deserves a shot or two. These 'lumberjack shots' are perfect for the occasion and surprisingly delicious.

Boston Speaks Innovation With New Building
Unknown to me, as I'm sure it may be to many of you, a new unique and innovative venue called District Hall was opened in October 2013 right near Seaport Boulevard. This city-sponsored center with workspaces, classrooms, community rooms, and a restaurant comes as a sweet surprise to many in the community. The center was established out of a public-private partnership between the city of Boston and Boston Global Investors. The sleek, modern building by Boston-based Hacin + Associates offers a gorgeous civic space centered around collaboration.
Hacin's angular design was inspired by the former industrial nature of the neighborhood, which used to be a waterfront rail yard. With views of the harbor, large glass panels, and bright LED lights, District Hall becomes a beacon at night and a transparent advertisement for the various happenings within. The establishment is flexible and dynamic enough to house a variety of different functions--networking events, casual gatherings, and demonstrations of new technology.
Operations and programming are run by the Venture Café Foundation, a not-for-profit sister organization to the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC). Their hospitality partners are Gather and Brew, both operated by The Briar Group. The Briar Group is known for managing countless venues throughout Boston from Ned Devine's in Faneuil Hall to The Green Briar in Brighton. With the help of The Briar Group, District Hall is sure to take-off especially with summer around the corner, the time of year the Seaport really fills up.

Being Socially Conscious In The Events Industry
Recently, industry professionals have been proclaiming that their jobs include management of public perception, related to values and ethics concerns circulating in the news. This may not fall under the realm of responsibilities you may think event and meeting planners have, but it is the truth.
Increasingly, event and meeting professionals are conscious of topical issues and public outcries. They are making decisions for events/meetings based on prevailing social, moral, or political beliefs. In a BizBash article, a poll was completed where respondents overwhelmingly said they felt it was their professional duty to partake in being socially aware and socially conscious, acknowledging their roles as managers of public perception amid controversial issues in the news that could threaten an event's success.
Across the country different events and venues have been dealing with these controversial issues and facing boycotts in response to these dilemmas. The Beverly Hills Hotel, one of the most iconic properties in Los Angeles, is facing the percussions of a boycott because of the political beliefs of its owner, the Sultan of Brunei. Apparently, he was imposing Sharia law, which targets women and gays for harsh punishment, in his nation. This display of disrespect comes on the heels of previous calls for boycotts in the case of Florida's Stand Your Ground law.
LA is home to one of the biggest TLGB Pride Parades known to man. This year the parade is taking place June 6-8, 2014. It will be interesting to see if any actions involving the Beverly Hills Hotel will occur during the parade.
"With over 400,000 participants, spectators and marchers, this emotionally charged experience, gathers together a colorful and diverse look at our creative community showcasing all that is great about the TLGB community."
This year's grand marshal is Demi Lovato, a well-respected artist who's Twitter-following will surely rip anyone to pieces if they have an issue with anything involving the parade. It will be interesting to see how the continued controversy and boycotts at the Beverly Hills Hotel unfold and if anything goes down at the parade.
Read more on these issues and form your own opinion. It is your responsibility to devour the details and do so in a socially conscious way.

When It Rains, It Sprinkles!
My cousin and his wife are having their second baby and my aunt wanted to celebrate the pregnancy but without having another baby shower. Instead, she had a sprinkle! A sprinkle is a smaller, more intimate celebration with mostly just family members. Gifts were involved but it was not really about that; it was more about our family getting together and sharing our well wishes for the new addition!
My aunt did an amazing job. She went with a rubber ducky theme and it was adorable. Ducks could be found everywhere from décor to drinks. Take a look at what she was able to do when hosting this splish-splashing-sprinkle!

Tid-Bits and To-Dos of Event Marketing
One of the most important parts of planning an event is how you market it. Without promoting and addressing the correct audience with your event information, your attendance would be a flop. You always want to be ahead of the game and increase the effectiveness of your marketing. And don't forget, marketing happens before, during, and even after the event.
In this article How To Win and Influence Attendees by Julius Solaris with additional input by Dale Carnegie and Robert Cialdini, you will find some eye-opening event marketing information. The information provided is built on a lot of personal experience which I can attest to. At my current job, we do a lot of e-blasts before, during, and after events, as well as constant web updates and provide great customer service to keep attendees interested and informed throughout. But if you're wondering how to really win over the attendees, this article provides great insight and techniques into doing so.
A lot of marketing to your attendees deals with the art of persuasion. Widely noted in this article is that the science behind influence requires continuous application and practice. It also requires a great product, service or event. Therefore, learning about these techniques can only benefit your event if you continue to do your research, test before implementing, and make sure to persuade audiences to attend great, rather than poor events.
Let the art of persuasion devour your event marketing details! And be sure to learn and share these techniques.

ConGRADulations
As many of you may know, it is the month of the graduate! High school, college, and higher education graduations are non-stop in May and the chance to celebrate is upon us. Let's take the opportunity to make some special memories for the graduates in our lives by devouring the graduation party details!
The party style should fit the personality of your graduate. It is also important to incorporate the school's colors and mascot that they are graduating from into the theme. This gives you a good idea of what you would want the celebration to look like.
Pinterest has become my number one resource when searching for any event ideas. It gives some inspiration as well as projects you can do yourself to incorporate unique personal touches to the party. Here are some great ideas that will surely make your graduate's celebration a success!
This tablescape incorporates the school's colors really well. I love the use of brown-bag covered books as part of the centerpieces. Also, the "Picture you Future" theme is a cute way to remind the graduate of the journey ahead of them.
Turning ordinary party silverware and napkins into diplomas by tying ribbon around them makes for a simple but great personal touch!
Your (college/21+) graduate deserves a champagne toast in honor or their accomplishments. Dress up this moment in an unforgettable way.
I can't go a day without taking pictures and when it comes to a party, forget about it. I am sure your guests will feel the same way about capturing your graduate's celebration. Why not give them some props that suit the occasion?
The cap is such an iconic symbol of graduating. It represents the completion of an education just as much as a diploma/degree does. Share in the symbolism with your guests by having some awesome desserts like these!
Lastly, I love the idea of these party favors. Wrap Smarties to look like a rolled diploma. Easy to make and very inexpensive. Your guests will love taking these home.
I hope these unique ideas to devour the details can turn your graduate's celebration into a lasting memory. Congrats Grads!
