Wedding Wednesdays: Don't Feel Deserted, We've Got a Color Palette For you!

Trying to figure out your wedding style and colors? Don't stress! We've got you covered with this perfect summer and desert inspired palette! Magenta, peach and sage - not your average color combo - are a perfect complement for a summer wedding. Inspired by an Arizona desert, the sage in this palette reminds us of the green in the cacti, and the peach almost matches the red rocks found in that area. Even with this bright palette, it feels completely at ease with the rest of a summer setting.

Analogous colors live together well, which is why peach and magenta look so cohesive. Having sage as the accent color adds some nature to the balance that can be easily incorporated in florals. No matter what type of venue or which season you're celebrating in, this color combo can easily be replicated and it's perfect if you're going for a chic and energetic vibe.

Let the deserts of the American Southwest serve as your inspiration with these bright colors and devour the details of the perfect wedding palette!

Experience the Life of a Bostonian through Airbnb

Airbnb isn’t just about lodging in the Bay State anymore. Through the travel website, users can now book excursions that include sailing, shucking oysters, hiking, cooking lobsters, and flying a hot-air balloon. You know, your typical Boston summer activities. The company’s “Airbnb Experiences,” a marketplace of activities created and hosted by local community members, debuted in Massachusetts on April 30. The activities span a dozen different categories that include food and drink, nature, entertainment, and history. The program launched worldwide in 2016, but Massachusetts is the first New England state to offer it. Bring on the tourists!

guest content

Through Airbnb Experiences, you can stand-up paddleboard in Marblehead with Maryellen, an “outdoor recreation enthusiast.” You can join Carlos, a freelance photographer, on a professional photo shoot of historic spots around Boston. Learn to fly a hot-air balloon with a pilot named Jordan in Great Barrington, or shuck oysters on the docks of East Boston with Alexis, a Boston native and founder of a “secret supper club.” If you prefer lobsters to oysters, you can get them straight from a lobster boat, then cook and eat them with Jennifer and Keith, a married couple in Quincy. Boston, city of champions? More like city of hospitality!

guest content

Airbnb Experiences has grown from 500 experiences in 12 cities worldwide to 9,000 experiences in 70 cities since its inception. It will expand to 1,000 cities worldwide this year, including 200 more American cities. Boston is part of that expansion.

guest content

Small businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations submit experience ideas to Airbnb for approval and set their own prices. Since the program began in 2016, the company has received 55,000 requests worldwide to host experiences, and 9,000 have been approved. Requests must meet the company’s high quality standards, which include being friendly and hospitable, displaying expertise, and giving guests insider access. The excursion should also offer Airbnb users something different from a typical tourist attraction.

guest content

Airbnb earns a 20 percent commission on each experience, with the exception of the “social impact” experiences hosted by nonprofit organizations. In those instances, the nonprofits earn 100 percent of the profit. For example, when you opt for a two-hour sail on the Boston Harbor for $35 per person, the money you spend will help provide summer programming to nearly 1,000 children at Courageous Sailing Center for Youth, Inc. Choose a 90-minute violin or cello lesson for $30 per person to benefit the Boston String Academy, a nonprofit organization that offers an after-school string program to inner-city students.

The benefits of booking an Airbnb Experiences are endless. Next time you're looking for something to do in and around Boston, consider planning your day with the help of Airbnb and devour the details of an experience unlike any other!

Monday Mashups: A New Fruit-Flavored Brew Has Arrived

Worcester-based Polar Seltzer has teamed up with Harpoon Brewery’s UFO Beer to create a fruit-flavored beer just in time for Memorial Day weekend celebrations. The result is UFO Blueberry Lemonade Beer, a “Hefeweizen brewed with the essence of Polar Blueberry Lemonade.” Could it be? Are seltzer and beer the new peanut butter and jelly? We think yes!

The unfiltered wheat beer will be widely available by mid-May, on store shelves in six packs of 12-ounce cans and on tap while supplies last. In other words, and as the cans will say, it’s “berry limited.” UFO, made in Boston at Harpoon, stands for “UnFiltered Offering” — the yeast is not filtered out of the beer, so the brews are all cloudy.

Image result for ufo berry lemonade

The brewers over at Harpoon worked closely with the team from Polar to select a delicious flavor from their Seltzer’ade line that would pair well with a classic wheat beer. And just like that, the UFO Blueberry Lemonade beer came to fruition (no pun intended). Flavor adventure is about to take on a whole new meaning with this partnership! We can't wait to get our hands on these cans!

Polar’s Seltzer’ade line, which includes blueberry lemonade, was released in February of 2017. We can already tell these berry good beers will be flying off the shelves! Get to the liquor store today and devour the details of UFO Blueberry Lemonade just in time for Memorial Day. Cheers!

Image result

Ingredients:
10 lb (4.5 kg) mixed beef leg bones, shin, knuckle and marrow bones
12 oz (340 g) ginger, 2 large hands, halved lengthwise
1 head large garlic, halved crosswise
4 kg medium yellow onion, halved lengthwise
8 sticks cinnamon
¼ cup (110 g) whole black peppercorn
6 pods star anise
1 lb (455 g) beef brisket
kosher salt
¼ cup (60 mL) fish sauce, plus more to taste
1 lb (455 g) boneless sirloin steak
1 lb (455 g) flat rice noodle, cooked according to package instructions
2 cups (200 g) fresh mung bean sprouts, for serving
1 small red onion, very thinly sliced lengthwise, for serving
1 jalapeño, sliced into thin rounds, for serving
1 large bunch fresh thai basil, for serving
1 lime, cut into wedges, for serving
hoisin sauce, for serving
siracha, for serving

Instructions:
  1. Set a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat the broiler.
  2. Place the beef bones in a large stock pot, then add enough cold water to cover by 2 inches (5 cm). Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat and cook for 10 minutes to blanch the bones and remove any impurities.
  3. Drain the bones in a colander and rinse under cold running water. Return the blanched bones to the stockpot.
  4. Meanwhile, arrange the ginger, garlic, and onions cut-side up on a rimmed baking sheet and broil on high until the aromatics are deeply charred in spots, 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and add to the stockpot with the bones.
  5. Meanwhile, combine the cinnamon sticks, peppercorns, and star anise in a medium skillet over medium-high heat and toast, shaking the pan occasionally, until the spices are darkened in spots and extremely fragrant, about 5 minutes. Add the toasted spices to the stockpot.
  6. Season the brisket liberally with salt and add it to the stockpot.
  7. Fill the pot with enough cold water to cover everything by 1 inch (2 cm). Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium to maintain a gentle simmer, skimming off and discarding any fat that floats to the top as needed, until the brisket is fork-tender, 2-3 hours.
  8. Using tongs, transfer the brisket to a plate and let cool completely. Refrigerate the brisket until ready to serve.
  9. Continue to simmer the broth to get as much flavor out of the bones as possible, 3-4 hours more.
  10. Using tongs, remove and discard the bones and aromatics. Slowly strain the broth through a fine mesh strainer set over a large pot. Skim and discard the fat from the broth, then stir in the fish sauce. Taste and add more as desired.
  11. Thinly slice the brisket. Very thinly slice the raw sirloin steak against the grain.
  12. Divide the noodles among 6-8 large bowls, then top with the brisket and raw steak. Ladle the hot broth over the noodles and meat and serve immediately with the bean sprouts, onion, jalapeño, Thai basil, lime wedges, hoisin sauce, and Sriracha alongside.
  13. Enjoy!
Phở real, we told you this was an amazing recipe! Enjoy this simmering soup today and devour the details of a delicious dish you won't be able to resist. Yum!

Monday Mashups: Meet the 3-Day Music Festival Making Some Noise in Florida

Rolling Loud, a three-day hip-hop music festival that kicks off its fourth edition May 11 in Miami, will draw 60,000 fans daily to see headliners such as J. Cole, Migos, Post Malone, and more than 100 other rappers. The independent festival was created in 2014 by Tariq Cherif, 28, and Matt Zingler, 29. The duo met as elementary-school students in Hollywood, Florida, and cut their teeth in the music business promoting local shows by rappers like Rick Ross and Kendrick Lamar to get where they are today.

In an industry where high-profile festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo have corporate owners such as Live Nation and AEG Presents, Rolling Loud stands out. Their independence has allowed them the freedom to create this experience but it hasn’t always been easy. In its first year, Rolling Loud drew 7,000 attendees but lost money. The next year, the festival generated enough revenue to recoup their first-year losses and turn a profit. Last year’s Rolling Loud, whose three-day passes cost $300 plus $83 in fees, brought in 40,000 attendees a day. Today, the Miami festival is pretty self-sustained through just event revenues. Amazing!

RL18 FINAL.jpg

As hip-hop fans, Cherif and Zingler noticed that rap events weren’t as bountiful in Florida’s markets as electronic-dance-music ones. In 2010, they began working as promoters, earning kudos for lining up three to five shows in different parts of the state for an artist instead of just one. They modeled Rolling Loud not on Rock the Bells or other hip-hop shows but on EDM festivals that draw tens of thousands of fans. At the same time, South Florida became one of rap’s hottest scenes. Now Rolling Loud is expanding into new markets. The two owners last year launched events at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, which is operated by Live Nation, and the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, California. With no plans to slow down, there's no stopping this dynamic duo!

Tickets to the three-day event are still available for purchase online. For more information about this epic festival, check out the Rolling Loud website. Get your passes today and devour the details of an incredible show alongside Cherif, Zingler, and many others on May 11 at Hard Rock Stadium.

Wedding Wednesdays: DIY Tips for Your Wedding Program

The more guests feel involved with your wedding, the more likely they’ll have a great time. Wedding programs are a wonderful way to help your friends and family follow the ceremony and understand the wedding traditions you’re incorporating, plus they can take theirs home as a keepsake. The key to crafting a good DIY wedding program? Think practically and creatively.

What's Included
No matter what design you choose for your wedding programs, consider adding the following elements:
  • The full names of the bride and groom, the wedding date, and the city and state where the wedding is taking place
  • The order of the wedding ceremony, including the musical selections (and the lyrics if they're especially meaningful to you), the composers, and the performers, as well as readings, the source or author, and the readers
  • Wedding party bios with brief descriptions of each attendant's relationship to you
  • The name of the officiant
  • A thank-you note to both sets of parents; one to all the guests is another frequent addition
  • For religious and secular ceremonies alike, it's important to keep guests in the know by briefly explaining traditions, rituals, and ethic customs
  • If you wish to honor deceased loved ones, you can include a memorial on the back page with a photograph, a fond memory, poem, or quote
Personalizing Them
Your wedding program is an opportunity to tell guests a little more about you as a couple and to set the tone for the rest of the event. The easiest way to personalize your programs is to add special touches, such as favorite poems, quotes, or photographs. Here are some creative concepts:
  • For an old-world European theme, print the programs on marbled parchment paper rolled into scrolls and tied with a sage-green ribbon and a sprig of eucalyptus
  • Set the program up as a Playbill complete with The Players (each attendant's picture and a short bio), a description of Acts (the ceremony events), and a Producers' Note (a letter to guests from the bride and groom)
  • High school sweethearts? Reprint a senior prom picture on vellum and use it to top the program, setting a lighthearted, playful mood
Making Them
Whether you choose to create a program that's bound with a wax seal or a single sheet of paper, there are four basic ways to make your wedding day programs:
  • Set up an arts-and-crafts station in your home, complete with colorful papers, ribbon, and decorations, and host a bridal party DIY night
  • Create them using template designs from a computer program; with the right program, you can create almost anything imaginable
  • Purchase a DIY kit from a company like Paper Source; all you'll have to do is follow the directions and put the programs together
Presenting Them
Because wedding programs can come in unusual shapes, sizes, and colors, they can be presented in various ways. Here are some ideas:
  • Fill baskets, tin pails, or antique trays -- whatever works with your wedding style -- with programs and place them at the entrance to your ceremony site for guests to grab as they arrive
  • For an outdoor wedding, put a program on each chair and set a few pieces of colored sea glass on top to keep them from blowing away
  • Ask a friend or family member to greet guests and hand out programs as they arrive
  • Have your ushers hand guests a program right before they’re seated

Ingredients:
1 head of cauliflower, cut into two-three inch florets
2 tablespoons coconut oil
¾ cup parsley, chopped
½ cup scallions, chopped
2 tablespoons garlic, chopped
1 cup cherry tomatoes, quartered
juice of one lemon
salt and pepper to taste
optional: ½ cup feta cheese

Instructions:
1. Place one handful of cauliflower florets at a time into a Vitamix or high-speed blender.

2. Turn the blender onto the lowest setting until the cauliflower resembles rice granules (or try a frozen riced cauliflower option). Remove ‘rice’ from blender and repeat with another handful of cauliflower until all of the cauliflower is riced.

3. Heat oil in large skillet. Add cauliflower and sauté for about 5 to 10 minutes.

4. Add all remaining ingredients except for the lemon. Gently sauté the mixture for about 2 to 3 minutes. Allow it to cool and then add the lemon juice. Enjoy!
