Three Trendy Activities to Connect at Your Next Conference

It's out with the old, boring and sometimes forceful conference networking sessions and in with the new, innovative and fun ways to get to know each other! Attendees need a space to be creative, where they can take the time to connect and listen to other individuals. Whether the conference is small or large, indoors or outdoors, one-day or a week, give your attendees a number of fun activities that leave them wondering why they hadn't done something like that sooner. Check out these three awesome ways to connect at your next conference!

Play A Little Telephone

At C2 Montréal in May, attendees stepped inside the “Channel” experience, where they could grab one of the phone...

At a recent conference in Montreal, attendees stepped inside a tangible telephone game, where they could grab one of the phone receivers and have a conversation with another guest in the room. The activity is intended to explore what it takes “to truly hear and be heard in our modern, hyper-connected world”. After the conversation, participants are asked to move into a debriefing space to discuss the connection between the experience and their work. This interaction is great for teambuilding or even new-hire orientation. Plus, it looks awesome in photographs!

Picnic All-Year-Round

A picnic combines an alternative to traditional meal service with a networking activity. And when held indoors, a picnic...

A picnic combines an alternative to traditional meal service with a networking activity. And when held indoors, a picnic can take place year-round. Organizers can provide blankets and baskets filled with food for five or six people and invited attendees can find others to share with in order to start a new connection. This environment is a lot more relaxed than trying to find people at an eight or ten-top table in a stuffy banquet room. Incorporate this idea into your next conference for a fun way for attendees to meet and eat!

Badge Decorating

Badge decorating is an activity that allows attendees to show their individuality and creativity—and creates an easy topic of...

Trust me, as someone who prints and stuffs plain old boring badges for meetings, this idea truly makes us happy! Badge decorating is an activity that allows attendees to show their individuality and creativity—and creates an easy topic of conversation among strangers. The decorations can match the theme of the conference or be something completely random that allows your attendees to truly be themselves. It's a nice way to bring out that "being a kid again" vibe which in turn, kind of makes meeting people a little easier, just like the days of making friends in elementary school.

Try these trendy activities out and continue to find ways to devour the details and improve connections at your next conference! Your attendees will be happy you did!

Wedding Wednesdays: When Pinterest Trolls Your Engagement Ring Board

We're all guilty of doing it. Scrolling for hours through millions of potential engagement rings, round, square (cushion), rectangular (princess, Asscher, emerald, radiant), heart-shaped, pear-shaped, oval, or marquise cuts (like a pear but pointed on both ends), pinning them to your board, dropping a few hints to your future husband. White-gold, rose-gold, silver or antique with gemstones or diamonds, the pinning never stops. This is nothing to be ashamed of! In fact, Pinterest loves when we do this. They've been trolling our engagement ring boards, collecting data and releasing trend reports that are just going to take this obsession to the next level! It's okay, we're ready for it!

https://www.theknot.com/content/pinterest-engagement-ring-trends

Pinterest can't confirm the validity of the third-party analytics tool that was used but they did share current data about trends that are happening at this very second. So what's really hot right now? Without a doubt, it's pear-shaped diamonds, which have increased in popularity by 100 percent since last year and we totally understand why! Celebs including Anna Kournikova, Katherine Heigl and Victoria Beckham, to name a few, all share this stunning-cut in common and it is as unique and gorgeous as they are.

Katherine Heigl Pear Engagement Ring

From the trend repot, one could gather that classic diamonds will continue to hold the title for being the iconic marriage stone, but other gemstones are gaining in popularity too. Colored gemstones, specifically morganite (like the one from the recent Pretty Little Liars proposal, #Ezria) with a 62 percent increase and opal with a 42 percent increase, are on its tail. We certainly favor gemstones and appreciate a creative combination of both diamonds and gemstones as a stunning engagement ring.

http://prettylittleliars.com/

In the classic ring category, trending styles include three-stone designs (58 percent increase), solitaire rings (37 percent increase), pavé settings (24 percent increase) and halo accents (11 percent increase).
If your unsure of what these styles are, definitely take the time to research and figure out the types of rings you favor when pinning. In addition to Pinterest's trend report, there's also been an increase in millennial couples interested in lab-created diamonds. A recent consumer research study found that 55 percent of respondents (age 21 to 35) would consider buying an engagement ring with a lab-grown diamond, which was mostly driven by an interest of being eco-friendly. How different is that?

https://www.theknot.com/content/pinterest-engagement-ring-trends

When it comes down to it, it's all about finding that ring that's right for you and your partner's style and budget. However, we encourage you to continue to pin and devour the details of scrolling and saving until the perfect ring comes your way!

Monday Mashups: The Evolution of Airbnb

Airbnb Inc., the company currently known as a single-use home-rental service, will transform into a multipurpose trip planner. An obvious next step for this evolving business! They are pressing ahead with plans to expand into new travel services including restaurant reservations and city tours. The company is testing a standalone mobile app for finding and organizing travel plans, highlighting the importance of the initiatives of the company. And we couldn't be more excited for them!

A test version of the software is called Airbnb Trips, according to an Android app listing on the Google Play Store. The app offers access to personal itineraries with information about upcoming Airbnb rentals, city guidebooks, dining and happy hour events. Offering local services could help Airbnb differentiate itself from HomeAway, VRBO and other room-booking websites. Airbnb hopes to provide a more personalized touch similar to that of a hotel concierge. We foresee this app being successful for both leisure and business travel; organizing all aspects of a trip in one designated area for complete convenience and ease is all any traveler wants.

The San Francisco-based company began running a national advertising campaign this year suggesting it will help customers feel more at home while traveling. Their 2016 slogan: “Don’t Go There. Live There." has been backed by their newly released version of themain Airbnb app in April that added neighborhood travel guides as part of the rental opportunities. Airbnb is expected to unveil the new trips app at its annual conference in November. It is rumored that the company plans to roll out a program allowing current Airbnb hosts to make money by recommending restaurants and giving tours which will add to what they hope the app can provide to users.

The listing for Airbnb Trips on Google’s app store said the software is “unreleased”. Accompanying screen shots show example agenda items called “Mission: Happy Hour,” referring to a meetup in San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood, and a full-day “Table to Farm” event. We look forward to seeing what comes of their November launch and plan to update our readers then! This new software will surely help any Airbnb user devour the details of their next trip. Trust us, we can't wait to use it ourselves!

Brunch After A Night Shift

Needless to say, we've already been quite obsessed with Night Shift Brewing, established right in our backyard in Everett, MA, for some time now. Desk workers by day, homebrewers by night, the founding trio started their journey in a Somerville kitchen in 2007, creating brews well past midnight. A true hit amongst family and friends, Night Shift was in demand and proving to be a frontrunner among most commercially available styles and local microbrew beers. It was time to grow.

http://www.nightshiftbrewing.com/beers

In 2010, they started writing a business plan to begin their own 'nanobrewery'. By 2011, the Night Shift crew had raised a small amount of capital and began building a 3,000 sq. ft. 3.5BBL brewery in Everett, MA. On Saturday, March 31, 2012, they opened their doors for the very first time. With demand still high and the need for increasing production, Night Shift made the move to a larger facility still in Everett, MA in 2014 and haven't stopped serving with a smile since then.

http://www.nightshiftbrewing.com/beers

Night Shift Brewing now works with a 20BBL brewing system, a field of 7BBL, 20BBL, 40BBL, and 60BBL fermenters, and a growing collection of oak barrels. On a daily basis, they welcome guests into their 2500 sq. ft. Taproom so that they can continue to share their beers, space, and story. Their product is currently self-distributed to a group of retail and restaurant partners in MA and will hopefully be in other nearby states by 2016! Night Shift prides themselves on their excellent staff who makes this all possible. They are a team of 30+ talented, creative, hardworking individuals - from bartenders, to brewers, to salespeople, to their dedicated microbiologist/yeast guru. Without all these working parts, they might still be brewing in their Somerville kitchen.

http://www.nightshiftbrewing.com/about

As part of growing their community, other than the fact that the locals love their brews, Night Shift hosts a number of events to get people through the brewery doors. In fact, we're looking forward to attending the Better Bagel Pop-Up at Night Shift this Sunday, August 21 at 12PM-5PM ET. We're calling it, "Brunch After a Night Shift", because attendees are invited to come in, try a few pints and snack on a number of different bagel and spread flavors from Better Bagels Food Truck. And if you work a night shift, what's better than having brunch after clocking out (other than drinking a Night Shift)? Better Bagels is a New York style, hand rolled bagel company. Started by Sam Harden and James Grimes in January of 2014, Better Bagels is dedicated to the tradition and honor of hand crafting the highest quality bagels for the great city of Boston and beyond. They will be opening their first storefront in Boston's Seaport District very soon but you can get a preview of their potential menu items this Sunday at Night Shift Brewing.

http://www.betterbagelsboston.com/#!about/o2ueg

Come with us as we head to Everett this weekend and devour the details of brunch after a Night Shift. We hope to see you there!

Wedding Wednesdays: Just JT Tearing Up Some Hearts Over the Weekend

Happy Wedding Wednesday! We're sure you 90's babies all remember this epic record.

How could you not? Am I right? Well Justin Timberlake was at it again over the weekend, definitely tearing up a number of hearts with his surprise visit to a New Hampshire wedding on Saturday.

Yes, you read that right. Though he didn't dress for the occasion and belt out Grammy Award-winning track "Suit & Tie", he did join the now-newlyweds for an unexpected photo-op! The bride, Chelsey Gaudet, posted the photo on Facebook of herself with Timberlake and her new husband, Ryan Parks. The appearance of the singer, actor, and undoubtedly biggest 90's heartthrob of any boy band, took the newlyweds completely by surprise.

http://www.etonline.com/news/195729_justin_timberlake_crashes_a_wedding_snaps_pics_with_the_bride_and_groom/

The unexpected drop-in played out as so; the couple was taking their first look photos and all of a sudden Justin Timberlake appeared out of nowhere, shakes Parks's hand, congratulates the two and poses for a quick photo. Little did they know, Gaudet's father saw Timberlake eating lunch near the wedding venue, the Mount Washington Hotel, and asked him for the favor. What a sweet surprise!

Mr. and Mrs. Parks thought it was awesome of JT to do that but had no idea it would go this viral in such a short time. It is definitely a memorable moment of their big day they will likely never forget (especially anytime Justin comes on the radio)! Congrats Chelsey and Ryan and kudos to Mr. Timberlake for devouring the details of this epic wedding photo-op!

Become More Worldly in Boston

This is probably the coolest thing we've stumbled upon while blogging so far. We have literally never heard of this awesome attraction in all our years of living in Boston! Housed in the Mary Baker Eddy Library (which makes us giggle because we have a friend named Mary Baker), is a world-famous, three-story, stained-glass globe you can literally walk inside! Who knew?

virtual-tour_mapparium_group_interior

The attraction is called the Mapparium which is a three-dimensional perspective of the world of 1935 is enhanced by A World of Ideas, an original presentation that features a rich orchestration of words, music, and LED lights to illustrate how ideas have traversed time and geography and changed the world. As part of this feature, the Library also shows a complementary exhibit, “The Mapparium: An Inside View,” featuring letters, documents, and artifacts never before made public. These showcase the construction, history, and significance of this magnificent architectural and artistic achievement.

virtual-tour_mapparium_acoustics

The Mapparium was conceived by the architect of the Christian Science Publishing Society building, Chester Lindsay Churchill, as a symbol for the global outreach of The Christian Science Monitor. Originally called “the Glass Room” or “the Globe Room,” Mapparium comes from the Latin words mappa (“map”) and arium (“a place for”). The Mapparium was three years in the making (1932-1935). It opened to the public on May 31, 1935, and came to a completed cost of $35,000 (at a time when a Hershey bar cost about five cents), including all labor and materials. Originally, Churchill designed the glass panels to be replaceable as the political boundaries of the world changed. Later, a renovation of the Mapparium was initiated in 1998 and took four years to complete. Today it stands as beautifully as it did when it first officially opened in 1935.

virtual-tour_mapparium_cleaning

Tours of the Mapparium run every 20 minutes, lasting 15-20 minutes, Tuesday-Sunday. The first tour of the day starts at 10:20 a.m., and the last tour starts at 4:00 p.m. General admission is $6. We can't wait to check this exciting exhibit out and hope we got you interested in devouring the details of becoming more worldly right here in Boston!

Get Your Popcorn Ready, the Boston2Philly Premiere is Almost Here!

Ladies and gentlemen, it is with our greatest pleasure that we inform you of the 90 Minute, coming-of-age drama, Boston2Philly, created and directed by our good friend Ralph Celestin! Boston2Philly was shot in over 30 locations throughout the great city of Philadelphia, involving over 300+ actors based out of the Philadelphia, New Jersey and NYC area, and will be premiering in Ralph's hometown of Boston on Thursday, August 18th. You're all invited to join us at this wonderful event!

http://boston2philly.com/

The screening is a personal thank you from the cast and crew and to all who have supported the making of the film and the message it encompasses. During the production of Boston2Philly, many major events and tragedies occurred that left the world outraged and families and strangers alike searching for answers. This movie touches on many of these major issues and showcases them in a very unique and innovative way rarely seen on film. Boston2Philly shows us the real Philly, all the beauty and all of the ugly. Celestin exclaims, "it shows us life and that is something we all can relate to". We are honored to be a part of Ralph's budding career by attending the premiere!

The film chronicles the life of Rome “Boston” Williams (Ralph Celestin), a young Black male from Boston, struggling with his identity and his ability to form real relationships in his new city of Philadelphia after a tragic accident takes the lives of his family. Set on a fictional Philadelphia University campus, Rome encounters Professor Balan, who challenges his freshmen class (Philly, G, and Rye Rye) to develop a deeper relationship with their “inner-selves”, along with connecting on a more personal level with their peers. As an incentive, Balan offers the shocking monetary reward of $50,000, pushing his students to explore their own broken, violent pasts and those of their peers in a way they never thought imaginable. Through an exploration of each others’ histories, the group of diverse freshman slowly become a cohesive group, initially bonded by the chase of the cash reward, but glued by their shared fears, hopes, and dreams.

http://boston2philly.com/

Both melodramatic and comedic, poignant and enlightening, through the personal journeys of the students, Boston2Philly reminds us all that sometimes the first step to true success comes from understanding who you were, who you are, and where you are going. Beautifully said! We couldn't have summed a better message to come from our dear friend Ralph Celestin. His passion and commitment to his family and friends is evident in his depiction of Rome's life in this beautiful and tragic coming-of-age story. We can't wait to see him on the big screen!

As a celebration of local talent and Philadelphia’s burgeoning independent art scene, the Boston2Philly Private Screening Event will be accompanied by a live Q & A from Philadelphia-based Actors after the viewing. Given the exceptional amount of young, promising talent associated with this film, the Boston2Philly premiere celebration is not to be missed! The screening will take place at the AMC Loews Boston Common 19 on Tremont St in Boston on Thursday, August 18th from 7-9:30PM. Get your tickets today!

http://boston2philly.com/

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ralph Celestin, the Boston2Philly cast and crew and all those involved on producing this sincere and relevant film that is bound to open-the-eyes of many living in the Boston and Philadelphia-areas highlighted in this movie. Kudos to you all on devouring the details of a beautiful message that can now be shared with the world. See you on the 18th!

Cape Cod Beer Cornhole Tournament! August 20

Cape Cod Beer started out in April of 2004, brewing at the old Hyport Brewing Company at the west end of Main Street in Hyannis. They brewed in this tiny space for almost 2 years, schlepping kegs across town to wash them in their storage space, and selling homebrew supplies out of their house to supplement their income in those early days. At the beginning of 2006, Cape Cod Beer moved out of the Hyport for good and into their new space (3,000 sq. ft.) at 1336 Phinney’s Lane, brewing with a total of 3 full time employees. In 2014, they begin canning their beer with the help of Iron Heart Canning, a mobile canning company based out of Connecticut. Initially, they offered only the Red and Blonde Cape Cod Beers in cans but expanded to all four of their year round beers in 2015. And the rest is history!

Now, Cape Cod Beer is well-established and home to many visitors. They are constantly holding events at their brewery and invite all those who've never been to come for a tasting and those who have, to come back for another beer. Tours are offered once daily at 11AM Monday through Saturday. Cape Cod Beer is a family and dog-friendly facility. You must be 21+ years of age to have one of their brews. During summer months they have a hot dog truck on-site and you are welcome to bring your own snacks or order delivery in from a local restaurant. Their slogan, "a vacation in every pint", speaks volumes for the brews they provide to the community. You can't go wrong with adding a trip to Cape Cod during your summer vacation plans!
