Monday Mashups: Lifeguard Tower Hotel, A Tel Aviv Dream

We've seen a few characters on Baywatch utilize a lifeguard tower before but we've never seen anything quite like this. Even the stars of Laguna Beach would be jealous! This particular lifeguard tower is a Tel Aviv dream. No really, it is! Dreamed up by Brown Hotels and the Israel Ministry of Tourism, you'll have the best sleep of your life in this beachfront property.

Brown Hotels' Lifeguard Tower Hotel

Brown Hotels partnered with the Israel Ministry of Tourism to unveil its Lifeguard Tower Hotel at Frishman Beach in Tel Aviv. Designed by the hotel company's lead designer and graffiti artist Edgar Rafael, the hotel includes a free-standing bathtub, a personal butler, and evening room service. Through a partnership between Hotels.com and the tourism bureau's #TakeMe2TelAviv campaign, guests can win free one-night complimentary stays in the hotel through March 31.

Tel Aviv lifeguard tower becomes luxury rental:

There's no need to pack a red “Baywatch”-style swimsuit because guests of the Lifeguard Tower Hotel are not responsible for the safety of Frishman Beach swimmers (but if you want to, we're totally okay with that)! In fact, you're not responsible for much at all. As we mentioned,  the accommodations come with a personal butler and you'll also be served an Israeli breakfast daily! Plus you can dial up room service in the evenings. A true getaway where you can really treat yourself!

Tel Aviv lifeguard tower becomes luxury rental:

More than 1,000 participants from around the world have already submitted as part of the competition to stay here, according to the Brown Hotel Group, by sharing photos of themselves decked out in beachwear with a sign reading #TakeMe2TelAviv. You have up until Friday to plead your case for this getaway via Instragram. The tourism campaign will then award 10 lucky winners with one-night stays at this unreal property.

Tel Aviv lifeguard tower becomes luxury rental:

In April, the suite will sadly become a functioning lifeguard tower once again. But if you miss out, don't give up on your pop-up dreams just yet: A similar hotel is planned for Jerusalem's Old City, according to The Telegraph, though there are no formal details yet. We love this campaign and hope to see other hotel groups across the globe devour the details of something similar to increase tourism in different areas of the world!

A Night of Dining and Entertainment for a Cause

Join NF Northeast on April 5th as they celebrate their 18th Annual Table for TEN charitable event right here in Boston! Neurofibromatosis Northeast is a non profit 501(c)(3) organization incorporated in 1988 by a group of people who were in some way affected by the genetic disorder known as neurofibromatosis (NF); a hereditary condition that causes tumors to form on nerves anywhere in or on the body. The Mission of NF Northeast is to find a treatment and the cure for neurofibromatosis by promoting scientific research, creating awareness, and supporting those who are affected by NF. The organization provides grants to scientists at leading institutions across the country and is proud to have been the impetus behind the creation of The Harvard Medical School Center for NF and Allied Disorders (CNfAD), a virtual center whose mission is to define the pathogenetic mechanisms that cause NF1, NF2 and related disorders.

Each year NF Northeast celebrates the NF community by hosting their Table for TEN event, a night of dining and entertainment for a cause. This year, the organization recognizes Dan Andelman, host of myTV38’s “Phantom Gourmet,” and Donato Frattaroli, Jr., proprietor of il Molo restaurant in the North End as the honorary co-chairpersons. The premise of the event is to give attendees a night out on the town where they can dine at some of Boston's best restaurants then close out the evening at a decadent dessert reception with live entertainment and an auction hosted at the newly renovated University of Massachusetts Club.

Groups of ten guests will arrive at their respective restaurant at 6:00pm on Wednesday, April 5, and will indulge in a specially created three-course menu paired with wine. This year, NF Northeast has joined forces with some of the best restaurants throughout the city to make their biggest splash yet.  Participating restaurants in this year’s Table for TEN event include, but are not limited to: Artu; Da Vinci Ristorante; Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen; Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse; il Molo; La Motta’s; Legal Sea Foods (Park Square); Lucca (Back Bay & North End); Ocean Prime; Parker’s Restaurant; Post 390; Scampo; Serafina; State Street Provisions; Strega Waterfront; The Smoke Shop; The Tip Tap Room; Top of the Hub; Tresca; and, Union Oyster House.

http://nfincne.org/events/event/table-for-ten/

At 8:00pm, supporters are then invited to continue the festivities at the official after-party at the University of Massachusetts Club. At this dessert reception, Montilio’s Baking Company will provide sweet treats and revelers will enjoy music entertainment by Ancient Mysteries featuring Kevin McKelvey and Ben Buttrick. Additionally, there are raffles, a silent auction and a live auction with honorary co-chairperson, Dan Andelman, serving as guest auctioneer.

Proceeds from Table for TEN will fund scientific research at the Center for Human Genetic Research at Massachusetts General Hospital as well as provide support to the NF clinics at Boston Children’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. Research will help find the cure for NF, a genetic disorder that can cause learning disabilities, seizures, brain tumors, deafness, vision impairment and cancer. Additionally Table for TEN will help to create awareness about NF which affects more people than cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy combined, yet is a little known disorder. Over the years, incredible strides in research development have been made bringing the NF communiy one step closer to a cure.

Monday Mashups: What Does Disney Do to Grow Off-Season Attendance?

Ever wonder how theme parks keep their attendance up year round? Besides discounted ticket prices and the occasional release of a new ride, amusement venues are constantly having to be inventive when it comes to getting people through their gates during the off-season. One example of a true tourist attraction that does this to the fullest extent is Walt Disney World. Learning 20+ years ago that they could boost Epcot attendance levels every Fall by staging a food and wine festival around World Showcase Lagoon, the House of Mouse hasn't stopped hosting cuisine-driven events since!

Let's start with SeaWorld for instance. When it comes to the Seven Seas Food Festival (running on Saturdays now through May 13th) this was more about adding something new to that theme park’s menu people hadn't seen befoe. The thinking here is that the more-than-60 unique Asian, European, Polynesian, Latin and North Atlantic dishes which are being served up at this seasonal cuisine-driven event won’t just appeal to people who are vacationing in Central Florida but also to Orlando-area foodies. Who, it is hoped, because SeaWorld’s Seven Seas Food Festival is only being presented on weekends, will then be able to make a special trip over to this theme park. Not to mention you can sample over 55 local and international craft brews that will be on tap there; who'd want to miss that?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/theme-parks-around-the-us-use-food-based-events-to_us_58c7e6f4e4b0d06aa65804a1

Epcot is one of Disney's parks that holds the majority of these seasonal events. When it comes to Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival (which is running now through May 29th), International Festival of the Arts, International Food & Wine Festival, and Holidays Around the World celebration, you can find food being dispensed from various kitchens and global marketplaces/kiosks throughout the park. When you're hungry, you can seek out any and every international dish at this cuisine-driven event and be totally satisfied with your choice!

You can also find similar tastes over at Universal Orlando Resort. Take, for example, Universal Studios Florida’s annual Mardi Gras celebration. Given that this seasonal event is hyped as “Florida’s Biggest Party"; what’s a party without food? As you wander through that theme park’s French Quarter, you can then sample authentic Cajun cuisine. Everything from spicy jambalaya and shrimp po’boys right through to king cake and sugary-sweet beignets. Yum!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/theme-parks-around-the-us-use-food-based-events-to_us_58c7e6f4e4b0d06aa65804a1

It's amazing what theme parks can do to market and draw attendance during slow season. Hopefully other amusement venues can learn from these efforts and devour the details of getting people through their gates all year long. We know we're excited to being heading to Walt Disney World the first week of May to enjoy these cuisine-driven events! See you soon Mickey!

And if you're currently planning your wedding and honeymoon, a vacation somewhere hot may be right around the corner! Shake the winter blues and check out these beautiful beaches and grand adventures for the perfect getaway. Stay warm honeymooners!

If you're going to: Australia
Ningaloo Coast

Ningaloo honeymoon idea

Why go: The Great Barrier Reef gets all the hype, but the Ningaloo Reef on the northwest coast is equally spectacular.

When to go: April to September are prime times to visit. Whale shark swim experiences are available April to July and humpback whale swims from August to October.

If you're going to: Africa
Skeleton Coast, Namibia

Skeleton Coast, Namibia honeymoon idea

Why go: One of the world’s most dramatic stretches of coast is home to ancient valleys, dune fields and shipwrecks. Despite the extreme landscape, it’s also startlingly life filled and offers one-of-a-kind safaris.

When to go: Namibia is a true year-round destination. December through March is hot, but also green and full of wildlife.

Where to go: Conservation-minded outfitter Wilderness Safaris boasts some of the top guides in Africa and operates the eight-tent, fly-in, fly-out Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp. You may be blissfully isolated from civilization, but the camp still provides top-shelf cocktails around the campfire, toasty throws in addition to cozy duvets and springbok filet for dinner. Did we mention, every scene is Instagram-worthy?

Best for: Couples who have already been to Africa or who are looking for a fresh take on the classic safari.

If you're going to: Asia
Raja Ampat, Indonesia

Raja Ampat honeymoon idea

Why go: Bypass Bali in favor of Raja Ampat. Nestled deep in an archipelago of uninhabited islands, you’ll find some of the best diving in the world here. A quaint and exciting getaway!

When to go: October through April is the dry season, and it also brings an abundance of manta rays.

Where to stay: Misool Eco Resort is surrounded by its protected 300,000 acre Misool Marine Park, teeming with ocean life (from $2,400 per person for a seven-night stay, all-inclusive). Choose from water cottages or spacious villas, and spend days snorkeling, at the spa or touring local villages. Feel good knowing your stay benefits the local community and the resort’s marine conservation programs. Be treated to a Romantic Beach Castaway Experience. The staff at Misool will drop you at a private beach with lounge chairs, an umbrella and a cooler full of snacks and drinks.

Best for: Diving enthusiasts. Don your snorkel gear and swim with baby black tip reef sharks in the waters just off the resort.

If you're going to: North America
Maui, Hawaii

Wai’anapanapa State Park, Maui honeymoon ideas

Why go: Maui is the best of all worlds! You’ll find a surfer vibe on the North Shore, amazing resorts and a place that makes you feel like you’re in another era in Hana.

When to go: During shoulder seasons is best—April through May and September through November—you’ll find more affordable rates, fewer crowds and idyllic weather.

Where to stay: Skip the tourist-filled big resorts of Maui’s South Coast and experience the island like a local on the North Shore. The Inn at Mama’s is set on a secluded beach shaded by coconut palms and puts you steps from the island’s celebrated restaurant Mama’s Fish House and a five-minute drive from the hippie-chic town of Paia.

If you're going to: South America
Torres Del Paine, Chile

EcoCamp, Chile

Why go: Unparalleled trekking through a changing landscape of glacial lakes and jagged mountains is just outside your door. So many beautiful honeymoon photo opps!

When to go: November through March is best, but shoulder months April, September and October have lower rates.

Where to stay: EcoCamp offers sustainable digs in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park. Guests sleep in geodesic dome-shaped structures modeled after ancient Kaweskar tribe dwellings. Stunning! Ceiling windows let you fall asleep while stargazing, and private terraces offer a romantic spot to watch the sunset. Honestly, nothing sweeter. Guests gather for meals, like king crab cannelloni and patasca (a typical Altiplano stew) in an enormous dining dome each evening. Request a dome with heat unless you prefer to snuggle.

Best for: Eco-conscious travelers; glampers; hikers; yogis; outdoor lovers...count us in!

Worth the splurge: Visit one of Patagonia’s largest ranches and spend a day horseback riding with local baqueanos (cowboys). You’ll ride past small villages, spot condor nests and hear about the region’s legendary stories over a picnic lunch.

If you're going to: The Caribbean
Anguilla

Anguilla honeymoon idea

Why go: The combination of incredible restaurants and gorgeous beaches make this one of the Caribbean’s top destinations.

When to go: May through August are the best months to visit.

Where to stay: An 18-month remodel by Auberge Resorts brought the famed Malliouhana hotel back to its 1950s glamour, just in time for your honeymoon! The rooms, suites and a cliffside restaurant were redone and a 15,000-square-foot spa was added. One thing that hasn’t changed is the dream location. Perched atop a bluff above three of the island’s top beaches—Meads Bay, Bobbing Cove and Turtle Cove—the hotel is ideally situated for snorkeling, sunning and sunsets. Every honeymoon requires the quintessential sunset photo, and the Sunset Bar at Malliouhana is the precise place to snap that image—with mojitos in hand, of course.

Romantic moment: Book a candlelit, private dinner with a dedicated waiter and guitarist under one of the recently refreshed pool cabanas overlooking the ocean. Then, indulge in gourmet s’mores around the fire pit for dessert accompanied by an aged rum tasting. Cap your night off with a latenight dip in the two-tier pool.

If you're going to: The Mediterranean
Puglia

Puglia

Why go: Puglia has always had James Bond–worthy beaches, beautiful architecture and ancient ruins. But the recently booming food scene on this remote heel of Italy’s boot has the region primed to be the next Tuscany. And we're hungry for both adventure and the local cuisine!

When to go: A temperate climate makes Puglia a year-round destination. Though it’s too cold to swim, October through April are great months for exploring inland charms.

Where to stay: Masseria Le Carrube, a working farmhouse in the town of Ostuni, has been transformed into a more rustic sister property of Puglia’s top hotel Borgo Egnazia. A spectacular stay for newlyweds! Don’t miss a meal at its vegetarian restaurant Le Carrube. If you enjoy architecture, we recommend exploring Valle D’Itria and checking out the village’s cylindrical houses with beehive-shaped roofs!

Snow? What snow? We're dreaming of Chile and Hawaii getaways for sure! Get inspired by these hot spots and devour the details of planning your honeymoon today!

Advertise like Audi

We've all seen a lot of out-of-the-box ads and campaigns through our endless social media scrolls, TV product placements and print marketing drives. It is truly crazy and also pure genius what some companies can come up with for branding opportunities. Which leads us to today's post! Audi Canada has taken sponsored advertising to the extreme again this year. During the FIS Ski Cross World Cup, which took place March 3 to 5 at Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood, Ontario, the Audi Canada team engineered a one-of-a-kind ski jump that was embedded with an Audi vehicle. And yes, it looks as amazingly cool as it sounds!

The vehicle was on display in the ski jump throughout the duration of the competition. Photo: Igor Yu

Last year Audi with the help of HornMedia Werbe GmbH conceptualized an idea of how to make a car part of the experience simply by placing it within the course itself. The research and development of the ski jump began in October 2016 with Philipp Von Horn, the project’s engineer and managing director, taking the lead on building the capsule for the Audi R8. It was noted that long hours of detailed planning, coordinating, and on-site control went into realizing the vision. No surprise there! Since this is something that hasn't been done before, we imagine that the time spent creating and executing this feat was exhausting but well worth it in the end.

Image result for audi canada ski jump

With agency XMC Sponsorship and Experiential handling the event production, the stunt's purpose was to show the progress of the brand in each and every aspect, and not just with Audi’s cars. The real goal was to create a conversation about the brand. We'd say that goal was met considering the buzz surrounding the final product.

Image result for audi canada ski jump

Two years ago, the Audi team executed a similar stunt where alpine downhillers jumped over an Audi TT in Austria. They thought this would demonstrate that an Audi Quattro could be driven safely even in winter conditions. Though this concept was successful, it didn't steal the show quite like incorporating a sports car into a ski jump does!

Image result for audi canada ski jump

We give Audi so much credit for coming back year after year with more creative and inventive ideas. They definitely know how to devour the details of their brand! Can't wait to see how Audi advertises next year.

Monday Mashups: Seven Days of St. Patrick's Day at Cask 'n Flagon

Starting to make your St. Patrick's Day plans? Get ahead of the game by kicking off the celebrations today (and all week long) at Cask 'n Flagon in Boston and in Marshfield. For the next seven days, you can enjoy your Irish heritage with themed culinary and cocktail specials and long nights of drinking!

Cask Logo

From March 13-19, the Cask kitchens will be serving up a taste of Éire with their traditional Boiled Dinner featuring corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes and rutabaga paired with a slice of Irish soda bread. On the liquid side, drink specials come fourfold. Created by Fenway’s resident cocktail man Eric Hecht, drinks that will have revelers green with envy include the Green Flagon with Deep Eddy lemon vodka, a subtle touch of Midori, triple sec and lemon sour that is topped with Sprite and garnished with a lime wedge and the 317 shot with Jameson Irish whiskey, Molly’s Irish Cream and green crème de menthe. Cask ‘n Flagon also will give any draft beer selection a dash of green food dye on request, should you want to bleed green. For those with an Irish temper, there is the Kiss Me, I’m Angry cocktail with Angry Orchard hard cider, Jameson Irish whiskey and amaretto.

http://casknflagon.com/

Aside from being the best spot to toast to tradition on St. Patrick's Day, Cask 'n Flagon is a property with lots of Boston history. The restaurant itself has been a Fenway staple since 1969. As second generation operators, Cask 'n Flagon owners are immensely proud to continue the legacy that their father, guests and employees have built. Certainly much has changed since 1969 but the one thing that has always remained the same are the stories they hear every day about the memories created at the top baseball bar. These stories are what motivate the business to continue the tradition of providing a guest experience like no other.

http://casknflagon.com/

Wondering the meaning of their name? Well, cask (kask) n. is a sturdy cylindrical container for storing liquids; a barrel and flagon (flag’ en) n. is a large vessel with a handle, spout, and often a lid, used for holding beer or other liquors. When the highlight of your restaurant is the bar, a name like this makes perfect sense! The Cask Boston building was originally a Ford dealership. The original dealerships terrazzo flooring still exists today in their event space and night club area which is located next to the Cask ‘n Flagon Restaurant and Sports Bar.

http://casknflagon.com/

While their name changed to Cask ‘n Flagon in 1969, homage was paid to another era of the buildings history when they brought back the Oliver’s name for their event and nightclub space created in 2007. Oliver’s was a live music venue in the 1960’s that hosted many now famous musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, and the band Boston. Many of the iconic black and white sports photographs lining the walls of the Cask were taken by famed Boston Globe photographer, Dennis Brearley. He captured Boston sports history beautifully and the legacy of his artistry still lives on in their walls!

Image result for cask n flagon boston

The building that is now Cask ‘n Flagon Marshfield was originally built as a roller rink, called Marshfield Family Skateland! An original red staff jacket is on display at the host stand. It was actually given to the restaurant by the family who built the roller rink and is still asked about today!

Image result for cask n flagon marshfield

For more stories and facts just ask anyone if they’ve been to the Cask. We are sure you’ll get a tale or two! So, if you’re visiting either at Cask Boston or Cask Marshfield to enjoy a meal, grab a beer, watch a game, look at the famous black and white sports pictures, do a little dancing, attend a function or meet up with friends, prepare to be considered Cask family. Show off your Irish pride and devour the details of the next seven days celebrating St. Patrick's Day at Cask 'n Flagon. We'll be waiting there with a green beer!

March Madness at City Tap House

The foundation of City Tap House has a long history in Boston. In the 1890s, the grounds of City Tap House Boston were home to the Congress Street Commons. For two years, the MLB called this area home. In 1906, the building that is now City Tap, was built by the Boston Wharf company. By 1920 it had transformed again into a sheet metal warehouse and supplier owned by Arthur C Harvey Co. Some odd years later, craft beer had arrived, officially establishing itself in Boston. And in 2010, with the market for craft brews at an all time high, City Tap House Boston opened its doors for the first time.

City Tap House Boston offers 60 craft brews on draft (4 on nitro) and 40 by the bottle, from local breweries and their favorites from around the world. With their authentic, brick oven pizzas, hand-made burgers, addictive wings and hushpuppies, City Tap House is working to elevate American pub fare one dish at a time just for us Boston residents, giving them a leg up on other local restaurants. But don't be fooled--the competition is definitely fierce--especially when it comes to the beer being served.

And that's sort of how this idea came to be. City Tap House is kicking off March Madness on March 15th with a friendly competition between four local breweries. The event will feature four kegs of Harpoon’s UFO Twist, Portico’s Fuzzy Logic, Notch’s Session Pils, and Wormtown’s Be Hoppy, and whichever one kicks first will be crowned the honorary March Madness brew for the tournament. In other words, basketball and beer fans will get the chance to vote for their favorite beer with their pint glasses. That's what we like to hear!

March Madness Kick the Keg

“There is nothing quite like the urgency of March Madness, putting it all on the line to capture victory. We thought adding a bit of that element into our draft beer selection could be fun,” said Andy Farrell, City Tap House’s brand director. “We always look to highlight local breweries throughout the NCAA tournament, so throwing this ‘play in’ challenge to Harpoon, Portico, Notch and Wormtown was a natural fit.”
