First Night Boston

A 40+ year tradition, Boston’s First Night has been a cherished and signature event for our city. It has been a successful New Year’s Eve celebration of artistic performances, memories made and the beginning of a new year. In keeping with this fun-filled Boston tradition, the First Night celebration in 2017 will continue to be free and open to all. Entertainment and special attractions will be focused in Copley Square, and the Boston Common.

Many of the beloved traditions of First Nights past will be retained, including the People’s Procession at 6:00PM, intricate ice sculptures, twinkle light displays and Fireworks; including Boston’s Family Fireworks over the common at 7:00 PM produced by The Mugar Foundation. Different this year, there will be a "Countdown to Copley", a pyrotechnics and light show in Copley Square at Midnight. In addition, arts and musical performances will take place in numerous inside and outside venues around the heart of the event from noon to midnight.

First Night is very excited to announce their partnership with NECN/NBC Boston to live broadcast the First Night festivities for 2017. This will include live on-air talent stationed in Copley Square from 6:00 PM through Midnight. Meaning full coverage of the event is available if you cannot make it there in person! If you do plan on attending, temps will be at a low of 33 degrees on Saturday night so be sure to bundle up! Then on Sunday, the celebration continues with First Day festivities in Copley Square where New Year’s revelers are welcome to participate in activities devoted to families and children’s entertainment from noon to 4:00PM.
