Monday Mashups: CorkSharing

This post comes after gaining a deeper understanding of what goes into tasting wine on the heels of watching the film Somm on Netflix. Somm follows four professional sommeliers as they attempt to pass the prestigious Master Sommelier exam, a test with one of the lowest pass rates in the world. These prospects study and taste every single day for a full year before attempting to take the exam and if they don't pass, they repeat the whole process until they do. It was truly interesting to listen to their descriptors of wine and the history behind different mouth-feels and tastes as they prepared for the test. Somm got us thinking of doing some wine tastings of our own. Then we came across this new app that is going to make it so easy for us to become Master Sommeliers in our own minds!

Dubbed the OpenTable for wineries, the CorkSharing app lets users find and book wine tastings around the world. Plus, it gives wineries the tools to manage reservations, whether for public or private tastings, tours, or events. CorkSharing also collects payment for confirmed reservations in advance, prior to you attending the tasting. Available on Android and iOS, the app has 600 listed wineries in 37 states and 22 countries. CorkSharing was founded in 2013 with the mission to evolve the wine industry forever. They want to grow the industry and introduce wine to next generation of wine enthusiast by providing an easy-to-use platform to book wine tasting events.

As a CorkSharing user, you're able to search wineries and wine tastings all over the world from Napa to Naples and reserve the wine tasting experience you want. Plus, you can pay in advance which is a nice addition if you're planning to impress your guests. Then once the host approves your reservation, you're ready to go tasting! If you're a winery interested in being featured on the CorkSharing app, it's a pretty similar process. First you list your tasting; publish photos, video, details, and pricing of your tasting for guests to book. Then share the app on your website and social networks and review the incoming reservations as they come rolling in. And of course, give the guests a wine tasting experience that they will never forget!

You can download CorkSharing in the app store and start devouring the details of becoming a Master Sommelier (or just someone really good at tasting wine)!
