Wedding Wednesdays: Honeymoon Adventures

When the wedding fun is over, it's time to venture onto your honeymoon! Whether you're going somewhere warm and tropical or mountainous and chilly, spending this time in your lives together will be what's most memorable. While researching destinations and activities for newlyweds, we've come across a variety of unique ideas that work for couples that are feeling a bit adventurous. Here are our top five favorites that you should plan to do after saying your "I dos"!

Bike Down a Volcano in Hawaii

Riding a bike in Maui might not seem remarkably adventurous — until you consider the route is an adrenalin-pumping, 6,000-foot plunge down the outside of Haleakala volcano. Of the nine companies that offer volcano bike trips, Haleakala Bike Co. offers the freedom to ride the route at your own pace rather than with a tightly packed guided group. Even with the 1:30 AM call-time, all it takes is one amazing Haleakala sunrise from the 10,000-foot summit to see why the ancient Hawaiians called this mountain “House of the Sun". An amazing and truly memorable experience for honeymooners!

Microlight Flights

A cross between a paraglider and a moped, this open aircraft is the most exhilarating way to get an overview of your honeymoon locale. Couples love the chance to see their romantic destination from up above. On a mircoflight, you are able to swoop in front of Victoria Falls, follow the Costa Rican coastline, whale-watch in South Africa from the sky. Highly recommended! Take this once-in-a-lifetime flight wherever and whenever you can.

Canyon Swing

For couples looking to turn up the adrenaline with their honeymoon activities, the canyon swing is off the charts. Strapped together in a bear hug and dangling over a deep gorge, you free fall until the rope catches and you swing like a pendulum—at up to 75 mph and a 1,000-foot arc. Squeals turn to kisses as the swaying subsides and the gorgeous view comes into focus. The thrill of this heart-pounding activity will stay with you forever!

Ride an Elephant in Thailand

Trekking through the jungle in Thailand is pretty cool; trekking through the jungle in Thailand on the back of an elephant is even cooler. Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, offers the experience, ending with a panoramic view from the top of Naga Mountain. This amazing experience will give you a lifetime of bragging rights. Plus, who doesn't love elephants? Best honeymoon photo opp of all time!

Go on a Safari in South Africa

Your bucket list will receive a gigantic check mark when you spy all of the Big Five animals — elephants, rhinos, Cape buffaloes, leopards and lions. But this is no ordinary safari: This honeymoon-worthy adventure is &Beyond’s Five-Day Ngala Experience, a luxurious safari crafted to guests’ interests. A helicopter tour is included, plus you certainly won’t be roughing it with a personal butler, private dinners and pre-heated beds. A truly one-of-a-kind experience! And if that doesn't inspire you to go, maybe this hilarious music video by Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard will.

We know, so hard to choose just one! Overtime, you can make it your goal as a couple to save up and participate in one of these amazing activities every three years if you can't decide. A lifetime of adventure, just like your marriage. We hope these ideas inspire you to devour the details of your honeymoon!
