Building Up Sox Nation with Legos

The history of the Boston Red Sox begins in 1901, as one of the original franchises of the American League. Playing their home games at Huntington Avenue Grounds, the Boston franchise (often called the Americans during this time) finished second and third place in their first two seasons before capturing their first pennant in 1903. An early start and long history of wins for Sox Nation. Eight World Series championships (1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, 1918, 2004, 2007, and 2013) and we were around for three of them!

A lot has changed since 1901, including relocating to their now home field, Fenway Park. The Red Sox are consistently one of the top MLB teams in average road attendance. While the small capacity of Fenway prevents them from leading in overall attendance, from May 15, 2003 to April 10, 2013, the Red Sox sold out every home game—a total of 820 games (794 regular season) for a major professional sports record. Sox Nation baby! The people of Boston stepped their game up. Pretty remarkable that we can be a part of such history and don't have to go very far to do so!

Speaking of not going very far, Assembly Row in Somerville is taking building up Sox Nation to a new level with their upcoming LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Boston Red Sox Showcase! Join LEGOLAND® on Saturday, August 6 from 11 am to 3 pm to celebrate the history of this great team. LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston’s Master Model Builder, Megan Quigley, will be conducting a live Red Sox themed build and visitors will have the opportunity to take photos with a World Series trophy replica made entirely out of LEGO® bricks!

In addition, there will be brick pits, LEGO® build stations for fans to show off their Red Sox pride and visits from LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston costume characters Bertie and Kai from Ninjago. The Red Sox "Showcase", a small truck that makes stops all around Boston and houses a batting cage, pitching stations, a steal 2nd challenge and a virtual reality experience will also be parked outside to add to this unique experience!
